This beetle, like the Shield Beetle, is a member of the Chrysomelidae, or leaf beetles.

Members of this group spend much of their time on leaves, but rather than relying on a strong shield to defend against predators, Flea Beetles have greatly enlarged hind legs that possess spring-like properties allowing the beetles to jump incredible distances.
