This tropical leaf beetle exhibits several interesting behaviors. The adults care for the juveniles, a practice limited to very few beetle groups, and the adult males compete for mates -- fighting viciously and tearing holes (shown) in competitors' wing covers.

This illustration is exceptional in that, in addition to surface texture and color pattern, it shows clearly the pyramid-like body form characteristic of this genus, which is extremely difficult to illustrate from a dorsal view.
